A premium domain is a domain name that is considered more valuable than standard domains due to its unique and memorable qualities. These domains are often shorter and keyword-rich. The choice of whether or not a specific domain name is deemed "premium" is made by the registry of that domain extension. So, for example, the registry "Verisign" would make the decision about which .com domains are considered "premium domains".
Premium domains have a couple differences, compared to regular domain names:
- Premium domains usually have a higher price tag.
- Premium domains can only be registered or renewed for one year at a time (compared to up to 10 years for some other regular domains)
- Premium domains cannot be renewed via the "Bulk Renewal" method. However, premium domains can be renewed in your domain account by going at the top to "Domains - My Domains", clicking on the domain name, then clicking "Add Years".
