I received an email that my order registration failed, what's going on?

All new domain registrations will have the contact information checked.

Failed orders will generate an Order ID, but will not be completed successfully. Because of this, you will see a pre-auth on the credit card from the failed order. This may look like a charge.

As of October 19th, 2015 as part of ICANN's RAA requirements, all new domain registrations will have the contact information checked.

The following 3 checks will be performed:

  1. Valid phone number format based on the selected country
  2. Valid email address format (contains an @, domain name, and no invalid characters)
  3. Valid zip/postal code format based on the selected country

If any of these are not valid in the domain registration, the order processing will fail even if it was submitted successfully.

If you did not enter any contact information, you may automatically be registering the domain using your account contact information. In this case if the Account Contact information is invalid, the registration will also fail.

Failed orders will generate an Order ID, but will not be completed successfully. Because of this, you will see a pre-authorization hold on the credit card from the failed order. This may look like a charge. To prevent your card from receiving multiple pre-authorizations from Failed orders, please verify your Registrant and Administrative contact information is valid before submitting your order.
