POP Email: Error saying "Your server reported a UID that does not comply with the IMAP Standard"

I accessed my email through a web browser, and now in Outlook I get an error message that a UID doesn't comply with the IMAP Standard.  What happened, and how do I fix it?

This problem likely occurs when the UID (unique identifiers) for the emails gets out of sync between the webmail app and Microsoft Outlook. This can happen when you check, change, read, delete emails in the webmail app while Microsoft Outlook is also actively running. It doesn't necessarily indicate a problem with the server. This is a long-running issue with IMAP and Microsoft Outlook.

It may fix the problem to just close and restart Microsoft Outlook. If that does not work, you can try deleting the IMAP account from Outlook, and then adding it again.

In order to prevent this in the future, it would help to not make changes in the webmail while Microsoft Outlook is also active and running.
