Question

When I register my new domain name, or renew an expired domain, how long will it take to go live on the internet?

Answer

When you register a new domain name, many times it will become active right away, however, it can take up to 48 hours for new names to become active. This is called "propagation." Although this can vary depending on the actual registry, this delay may occur for most TLDs, such as com, net, org, biz and info.

For expired domains that were recently renewed, it usually takes a few hours, but can take up to 24 hours for names to be fully active. Once a domain expires, it is directed to a default parking page and the site will go down, along with any email service on the domain. After the domain is reactivated (renewed), all of the previous settings will be restored.
