Web Hosting: Restore Automatic "Server Rewind" Backups in cPanel

Modified on Thu, 08 Jun 2023 at 01:19 AM

The web hosting at mywebhostingaccount.com features an automatic "Server Rewind" backup feature in cPanel, where the website files and databases are automatically backed up daily and saved off-server. Each weekday backup is kept for 7 days, each Sunday is kept for a month. Complimentary backups are provided for accounts up to 50 gigabytes on a best-effort basis.

The automatic "Server Rewind" backup feature can be accessed in cPanel to restore files and databases by doing the following:

  • Login to cPanel in a browser
  • Type in "Server Rewind" in the cPanel search bar, and it will pop up.
  • Select the file(s) or database(s) you would like to restore from a certain date. Unless specified otherwise, files will automatically restore to their same folder, and databases will automatically restore to the home directory. Check the box "Overwrite existing files" if necessary. Read the left-hand side panel in cPanel for more information about the process.
  • Click "Restore"

Note:  In cPanel, you can also manually create and save backups of the website files, MySQL databases, email forwarder configurations, and email filter configurations. See HelpDesk article: Manually Backup and Restore Web Hosting Content in cPanel.
